President Gerald R. Ford Dead at 93

President Ford, the only unelected U.S. president, was also the longest lived president. Often portrayed in the media as a klutz, he was, in fact, a talented athlete as well as a college football and boxing coach before entering law school.
His political career began as a Congressman representing Michigan in 1948, and he served in the U.S. House until he was appointed Vice President in December 1973. Less than nine months later Richard Nixon resigned and Ford became the 38th President of the United States.

President Ford is survived by his wife, Betty Ford.

HPL Renovation Bond Rating

There is a short story in today's Doings (12/14/06, p.H14) regarding the bonds for the renovation project, which have been given a AAA rating by the Fitch Ratings service. They cite "significant growth in the area's tax base and the village's stable ratings outlook" in justifying the highest possible rating. This reflects well on the renovation project and the Village of Hinsdale.

What exactly does an AAA bond rating mean? According to bondpickers.com, a AAA rating means:

Prime. Maximum Safety.
Bonds, which are judged to be of the best quality. They carry the smallest degree of investment risk and are generally referred to as "gilt edged." Interest payments are protected by a large or by an exceptionally stable margin and principal is secure. While the various protective elements are likely to change, such changes as can be visualized are most unlikely to impair the fundamentally strong position of such issues.
