18th World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day was established by the United Nations in 1988 as a day of awareness and education about AIDS. This Global pandemic is on course to be a leading cause of death, just behind heart attacks and stroke according to the WHO.
The World AIDS Campaign theme is year is Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.

News for Theater Lovers

The League of Chicago Theatres' discount ticket service, HotTix, is now offering tickets online. Only a few shows are available now, with more to be added soon.

Looking for a holiday show to attend with the family? Check out the listings from the Chicago papers.
The Chicago Tribune has a couple of articles: "8 Shows That Warm our Hearts" and "Ho Ho ho Holiday Shows."
The Chicago Sun-Times article debates "Humbugs vs. Sugar Plums"
The Chicago Reader has a listing, with links, of "Holiday Shows."

One of Chicago's grand old theaters, the Auditorium Theatre, has added some new pages to its Web site detailing its historic heritage. The new section entitled "Landmark Stage" will be of interest to architecture and history buffs, as well as theater lovers.

Turkey Talk Line Introduces Podcasts

The perennial help line has added a series of podcasts to its repertoire. The first podcast was posted to the Butterball Web site on October 30, 2006 and a new episode appears each of the following Thursdays until Thanksgiving Day.
The Butterball Turkey Talk Line Web site continues to offer real time live help to the culinarily challenged via telephone at 1-800-BUTTERBALL (1-800 288-837255). The hotline hours are 8 am to 8 pm CST, until Thanksgiving Day when they will offer live help from 6 am to 6 pm CST.
Their Turkey 101 section of the Web site offers a variety of menus, carving tips, and an FAQ.

The Reference Computers Reserved for Middle School Visit

On Thursday, November 16, 2006 from 9 a.m. until Noon the computers in the Reference Department will not be available. The computers are reserved and will be used for instruction and demonstration during this time, but the Express Internet Computer will be available for 15 minute sessions.
