Last Day to Register to Vote: October 10, 2006 and Grace Period Voting
Potential voters who wish to cast a ballot in the November 2006 General Election should check their voter’s registration, and register if lapsed. Voters who have moved within DuPage County should transfer their registrations.
Citizens of DuPage County may register at the Hinsdale Public Library during normal business hours until Tuesday, October 10, 2006.
Residents of DuPage County may also visit the DuPage County Election Commission Web site to confirm your voter registration, renew your voter registration, locate your polling place, or vote early.

Chicago’s Ups the Ante in Olympic Bid
The City of Chicago revised their plans for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games to include a South-Side Stadium. By moving the proposed stadium from the crowded lakefront to Washington Park, the new plan focuses attention on an area in need of revitalization.

Following a Few Stories to Their Awful Conclusions:
James Frey and Random House have tentatively settled lawsuits filed by angry non-fiction readers. Those who purchased the book before January 26, 2006, and seek a refund will have to jump through a few hoops. Beyond proof of purchase, they must provide a page from the book (hardcover edition), or the cover (paperback edition), or a portion of the audiobook packaging.
Former Illinois Governor George Ryan was sentenced to 6.5 years by Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer. Ryan’s co-defendant, Larry Warner, was sentenced to 3 years and 5 months. Ryan expressed no remorse over scandals that plagued his terms as Secretary of State and Governor.
