2007 Ravinia Schedule

The 2007 Ravinia schedule is now available at www.ravinia.org. Among the highlights: performances by Placido Domingo, Tony Bennett, B.B. King and a live recording of A Prairie Home Companion. Ravinia's "One Score, One Chicago" pick for the year is Alexander Zemlinsky's The Mermaid.

Grammy Noms Announced

Nominations for the 49th annual Grammy Awards were announced today in Los Angeles. Because the trophies won’t be awarded until February 11, you’ll have plenty of time to sample the nominated albums and artists, many of which are available at the library. Here are the nominees for album of the year:

Taking the Long Way by the Dixie Chicks
St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley
Continuum by John Mayer
Stadium Arcadium by Red Hot Chili Peppers
FutureSex/LoveSounds by Justin Timberlake

Music Under the Stars

Summer doesn’t officially begin for another two weeks, but the summer music season already is in full swing thanks to the Ravinia Music Festival in Highland Park. Complementary lawn passes to selected jazz and classical performances at Ravinia are now available at the library on a first-come, first-served basis to adult HPL cardholders (one performance only per library card, please; passes must be claimed in person). Here are some highlights of the entire Ravinia season:

June 16: Wynton Marsalis and Dr. John
June 25: Bonnie Raitt
June 29: Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Mahler’s Third Symphony
July 2: Los Lonely Boys
July 8: Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Verdi’s Requiem
