LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JUNE 29-JULY 5

REMINDER: THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY, JULY 4. It will be open on both Friday, July 3, (9 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Sunday, July 5 (1-5 p.m.).

ADULT SERVICES:
As part of the new Technology Trends series, Online Music will be presented on Tuesday, June 30, at 7 p.m. Finding the best web sites for music listening and downloading will be discussed. Sign up online.

On Thursday, July 2, learn about the newest world-wide puzzle craze at Sudoku for Beginners at 7 p.m. Basic strategies and solving techniques will be covered. Sign up online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Several special events are scheduled for this week. On Monday, June 29, join Fox and Branch for their audience-participation American Family Folk Music program, at 7 p.m. No registration or tickets are required, but seating is limited.

On Wednesday, July 1, the concert film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience will be shown at 2 p.m. in Kids Korner. No registration is necessary. All ages are welcome, but preschoolers must come with an adult.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JUNE 22-28

ADULT SERVICES:
This week there will be two sessions of the Computer Class, Internet Basics:
Wednesday, June 24, at 9:15
Friday, June 26, at 2 p.m.
Learn about URLs, toolbars, and websites in this introduction to the World Wide Web. There are currently openings in both classes. Sign up online.

Sign up is ongoing for the Adult Summer Reading Program. Only 5 books chosen from 12 categories are needed to earn the 50th Anniversary of the Library commemorative t-shirt. For more information call Adult Reference at extension 272.

YOUTH SERVICES:
The Summer Storytimes and Programs begin this week. Storytimes are drop in--no registration needed:
Baby Tales (ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years with a parent)------Mondays, 10-10:45 a.m.
Twilight Tales (ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years with a parent)-----Thursdays, 6:30-6:50 p.m.
Toddler Tales (ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years with a parent)-----Mondays, 11-11:20 a.m.
Family Storytimes (ages 3 1/2 to elementary grade levels--parents must be with those younger than 6):
Tuesdays, 10-10:45 a.m
Tuesdays, 2-2:45 p.m.
Wednesdays, 7-7:45 p.m.

On Monday, June 22, at 7 p.m., Science Teacher Mike Offutt will present his Ultimate Science Show. Toys and household objects will be used to "hilariously" demonstrate scientific ideas:

It's not MAGIC...it's SCIENCE
No registration or tickets are needed, but seating is limited.

On Wednesday, June 24, the movie Inkheart, based on the book by Cornelia Funke, will be shown in Kids Korner from 2-3:45 p.m. No tickets are needed.

On Thursday, June 25, there will be 4 sessions of Birthday Party & Craft. There will be games, a craft, and a special birthday treat. There are still openings in all 4 sessions:

1:30 p.m.
3 p.m.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JUNE 15-21

ADULT SERVICES:
Summer Reading starts this week. Participants 16 and up only have to read 5 books chosen from 12 categories to earn a t-shirt celebrating the Library's 50th birthday. Every EGVPL book read during this time can earn a raffle ticket for a special prize.

On Tuesday, June 16, there will be a bus trip, Presidential Footsteps: Obama's Hyde Park and Kenwood, to see local sites connected to the Obama family. Lunch will be at Manny's Deli. $57 tickets are available at the Information Desk.

On Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m., a program will be presented at 7 p.m. covering the new Blue-ray Technology. Sign up online.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Summer Reading also starts for children and young adults. Help celebrate the Library's 50th birthday with our special programs. A special treat is available for early sign-ups. Storytimes will begin next week.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS JUNE 8-14

ADULT SERVICES:
On Friday, June 12, the next Gaming Night will be held from 7-10 p.m. Open to anyone aged 12 and up, registration can be done online. Participants under 17 need a signed permisssion slip. Pizza, pop, and the Unreal Tournament will be available. For more information, call Adult Services.

The Friends will be holding a Mini Book Sale in the Lobby on Friday, June 12, from 3-7 p.m., and on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summer Reading begins on Monday for both Adult and Youth Services. Special prizes will be available for patrons who sign up on the first day only [until they run out].
