LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 5

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, September 29, at 7 p.m., Paul Culp, DVM, from the Rohlwing Road Animal Hospital, will present the program It's a Dog's Life!. Learn what can and should be done to keep pets--dogs, cats, and more--healthy and able to live long lives. Register by phone or online.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 22-28

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, September 22, local chef Dave Esau will present the program Cooking with Herbs at 7 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Polenta, cookies, tarts, and cakes will be demonstrated; recipes and samples will be available. Register online. this program is sponsored by The Friends of the Library.

YOUTH SERVICES:
There are still openings for the weekly SciKidz and Getting Ready to Read programs. Register online.

Registration for some of the October programs has started. There are still openings for all three levels of chess instruction and for the YA Wii Byte and Bite Program. Create Your Own Computer Game has a waiting list.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 15-21

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, September 15, at 7 p.m., in the Large Meeting Room, Colleen Caron will present What I Forgot to Remember, a program about memory and forgetfulness. Register by calling ALEXIAN CONNECTS at 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426).

This week, one Computer Class will be offered, Internet Basics, on Friday, September 19, at 9:15 a.m.--newcomers to the Internet can learn about URL's, toolbars, hyperlinks, and more. Participants must be able to use a computer mouse. Register online or by phoning extension 271 or 272. [There is currently a waiting list for this class.]

Because of low registration numbers, classes on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows Explorer will no longer be held. However, patrons can schedule one-hour private sessions on these programs by calling J. Kennedy at extension 225.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Fall programming begins this week on Monday, September 15, and continues until November 20. Preschool Storytimes that do not require registration will be:
Baby Tales on Mondays at 10 a.m.--ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years old with adult
Evening Storytime on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.--all ages and parents
Twilight Tales on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.--6 months to 2 1/2 years with adult

Online registration is required for the following programs:
Getting Ready to Read--ages 3 1/2 and up with an adult
Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Thursdays at 10 a.m.
SciKidz--for 1st grade and up
Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
Thursdays at 4 p.m.

Also starting this week is the Fall session of Babysitter's Training. It will be held on 2 consecutive Saturdays, September 20 and 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both sessions must be attended to qualify for the completion certificate. For ages 10 to 16. There is a materials cost of $10 that must be paid before registration is confirmed. Register online or by calling extension 267 or 268.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS SEPTEMBER 8-14

ADULT SERVICES:
Participants who have earned their t-shirts in the Adult Summer Reading Program BINGO is the Name-O are invited to a special BINGO Party from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 14. Guest callers will be there for some real BINGO games, prizes will be earned and awarded, and yummy special treats will be provided. Register for this fun way to end the program either online or at the Adult Services Desk (there is a sign-up sheet).

YOUTH SERVICES:
As a Preview of the Fall Programs, a special program will be presented several times this week by Mrs. M and Mrs. Clarke. Down on the Farm is intended for pre-schoolers through kindergarten and will have a puppet show, stories, songs, and a craft. Attendees can dress up as farmers or farm animals if they would like to. These programs do require registration. The times are:
Tuesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 10, at 7 p.m.
Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m.

On Friday, September 12, the carpeting in Youth Services is to be cleaned. This will mean that access to the department will be limited all day, especially to the computer room and to the play area.
