LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 26-JUNE 1
REMINDER: THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED SUNDAY, MAY 25, AND MONDAY, MAY 26, FOR THE MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY.
YOUTH SERVICES:
The Summer Reading Program will be starting in just over a week, on June 9. Student volunteers are needed to help run the program. Interested children in grades 6-12 are asked to attend one of two informational meetings this week: Tuesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. or Wednesday, May 29, at 4 p.m. At least one parent should accompany their child as written permission is required. Dates of conflicts--vacations, summer school, sports, etc.--should also be known.
Online registration for many of the Summer Programs will begin on Saturday, May 31.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 19-25
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, May 19, at 7 p.m., Dave Kunzweiler of Cabinets Plus in Palatine will present So You Want to Remodel Your Kitchen?. Current trends in countertops, cabinets, and lighting as well as how to estimate the length of time and cost of a project will be discussed. Register online.
On Tuesday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m., the Evening Book Group will be discussing Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants--nursing home resident recalls his experiences with a Depression-era second-rate traveling circus as an animal caretaker. For more information, call Chris Mika at extension 271.
Two sessions of the Computer Class Internet: Beyond the Basics will be held this week:
Monday, May 19, at 1:15 p.m.
Saturday, May 24, at 1:15 p.m.
For patrons who want to expand their knowledge of what the Internet has to offer. All participants must be able to use a computer mouse. Register online; class size is limited. Both classes currently have a Waiting List.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 12-18
ADULT SERVICES:
The film No Reservations will be shown on Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. Catherine Zeta Jones and Abigail Breslin star in this humorously moving story of a dedicated chef whose life changes when she becomes responsible for her recently orphaned niece. Rated PG.
Two Computer Classes are scheduled for this week:
Beginning Excel will be presented on Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m.--learn to format cells, use formulas, make databases, sort information, and more. Unfortunately, this class is already full.
Internet Basics will be presented on Saturday, May 17, at 2:15 p.m.--for newcomers to the Internet, learn about toolbars, URL's, and simple navigation. This class has a Waiting List.
All computer classes require that attendees already be able to use a computer mouse. Class sizes are limited. Register online.
YOUTH SERVICES:

Wednesday, May 28, at 4 p.m.
These meetings may last over an hour and a half. A parent should come also--to sign permission slips--and summer schedules (vacations, sports, etc.) should already be known. Students will be able to start signing up for their hours at this meeting--first come, first served.
Hours may be counted as Community service.
The YA Battle of the Books Final Battle ended with the following results:

Second Place--Mead Junior High
Third Place--Queen of the Rosary

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m., Kristen Fahnoe, RD, will present the program Spending Your Calorie Salary. Learn how to "budget" daily calorie intake as part of a healthy weight loss program. Recipes will also be provided. To register, call Alexian Connects at 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426).
On Tuesday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m., the Morning Book Group will be discussing A Gracious Plenty by Sheri Reynolds--a physically disfigured woman interacts with the spirits at the local cemetery. For more information, call Chris Mika at extension 271.

Internet Basics will be offered at 1:30 p.m.--get started on the Internet by learning about hyperlinks, toolbars, and addresses. Register online.
Windows Explorer at 7 p.m.--learn to create documents, edit them, and save them. Register online.
Paticipants in both classes must be able to use a computer mouse. Class sizes are limited. Both of these classes currently have a waiting list status.
YOUTH SERVICES:
A special Mothers Day Drop-In Craft will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. Although there is no set time to do the craft, registration is requested so as to guarantee sufficient supplies.
Also on Saturday, May 10, the final Creative Writing Class for Spring will be held. Diane Ledit conducts this class for children in grades 6-8 from 11 a.m. to noon. Register online.
