LIBRARY HAPPENINGS APRIL 14-20
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m., the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age starring Cate Blanchett, will be shown. This Oscar winning film (for Costume Design) continues the story of Queen Elizaqbeth I, concentrating on events in 1588 and on Elizabeth's relationship with Sir Walter Raleigh. No tickets are needed. Rated PG-13.
Two Computer Classes are scheduled for this week:
Windows Explorer on Wednesday, April 16, at 2:30 p.m.--organize your PC by creating files and folders in Windows XP
Internet Basics on Saturday, April 19, at 2:15 p.m.--learn to use toolbars, hyperlinks, and Internet addresses and get started on exploring the World Wide Web
All participants must be able to use a computer mouse. Register online; class size is limited. [Both classes currently have a waiting list.]
YOUTH SERVICES:
This week is National Library Week. As part of this celebration, two special programs have been scheduled in Youth Services.
On Tuesday, April 15, at 10 a.m., Bill Hooper will present his Active Music for Kids. This interactive musical program is for preschoolers through kindergarten. No tickets are needed. Parents or responsible adults must accompany attending children. Seating is limited.
On Saturday, April 19, children of all ages are invited to see the Yo-Yo Man (aka Barry North) for a performance of yoyo tricks and demonstrations. Children 8 and up can bring their own yoyos (or use one of Mr. North's) and get a hands-on lesson. No tickets are needed, but space is limited. Children kindergarten age and under must come with an adult.
April is also National Poetry Month. To help celebrate, Dr. G (aka Craig Sjogerman) will return for a special Poetry Workshop for Young Adults in grades 6-12. Write an original poem with Dr. G's help, bring poems you have already written--or just enjoy--, and possibly share them with the other participants. Snacks and prizes will also be available. It starts at 6:30; register online; attendance is limited.
