LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 25-MARCH 1
On Saturday, March 1, a free Make-it-and-take-it-craft will be available in Youth services for all interested children from 9 a.m. until closing or as long as supplies last.
Winter Reading Programs are ongoing in both Youth Services (ending March 7) and in Adult Services (ending March 15). It's not too late to sign up for either one.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 18-24
NOTE: The Library closed Sunday just after 2 p.m. because of a power outage
The Annual Friends Book Sale will be held this week. Friday, February 22, members of the Friends will be admitted from 6-9 p.m. for a Preview--patrons can join the Friends that night. The sale will be open to the public on Saturday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will continue on Sunday, February 24, from1-4 p.m.--the "Bag" sale where shoppers can fill up a bag with non-specials for only $5. Besides books, there will be videos, DVDs, audio books, magazines, toys, and more.
YOUTH SERVICES:
For Presidents Day, Monday, February 18, Youth Services will be presenting a special program, Frogs, Toads, & Salamanders , hosted by Wisconsin biologist Randy Korb. Attendees will be able to see, hear, feed, and even hold the amphibians at the program. There will be two time opportunities: 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. All ages are welcome and no tickets are required. But, children younger than first grade must be accompanied by an adult. Seating is limited, so preference will be given to Elk Grove residents. No strollers will be allowed in Kids Korner.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 11-17
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, February 11, from 4-7 p.m., a pharmacist from Alexian Brothers will be available to review all the medications a person is taking to evaluate dosages and interactions at the Brown Bag Medication Check-up. Interested patrons should bring all their prescriptions (in original bottles), all their over-the-counter medicines and pills, and all vitamins, herbal products, natural products, and items such as Maalox, in a brown paper bag. A special Medication Card will then be made available to share with health care providers. Register for this event at Alexian Connects, 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426).
Two Computer Classes are being offered this week, both on Wednesday, February 13:
Internet: Beyond the Basics at 2:15 p.m.--for those familiar with the Internet who want to learn more efficient ways to utilize the resource
Beginning Excel at 7 p.m.--make charts, spreadsheets, and graphs
Sign up for these classes online. Participants must be able to use a computer mouse. Class size is limited.

LIBRARY CLOSING AT 3 P.M. TODAY
Because of the severe weather, it has been decided to close the Elk Grove Village Public Library today at 3:00 p.m. All programs and meetings scheduled for this afternoon and evening have been cancelled, including Battle of the Books meets and Storytime as well as tonight's Computer Class.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE AS OF TUESDAY FEBRUARY 5

Youth Services had a major Moving Day on Monday. The racks holding the DVDs and music CDs have been moved apart, opening up a path into the department from the new doorway.

The DVDs are still on the West side of the room, but the CDs are now in front of the washrooms; the holiday DVDs are now where the old door was:

The NEW J Fiction and Nonfiction shelves are now near the regular J non-fiction:

The big drawers (storage) cabinet/display area has been moved towards the windows and the J paperbacks and series spinners have been shifted in that direction, too:

This has made a large open space, now, from the PACs to the entrance:

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS FEBRUARY 4-10
ADULT SERVICES:
The movie The Bourne Ultimatum, starring Matt Damon, will be shown on Monday, February 4, at 7 p.m. This fast-paced thriller finds Jason Bourne still trying to uncover his past, while trying not to be killed himself. Rated PG-13. No tickets are required, but seating is limited.
Several Computer Classes are being offered this week:
Microsoft Word 2002 on Monday, February 4, at 7 p.m.--learn how to create a document, save it, and edit it
Internet Basics on Wednesday, February 6, at 2 p.m.--learn to navigate the World Wide Web through toolbars, URL's, and hyperlinks
Windows Explorer on Wednesday, February 6, at 7 p.m.--organize your PC through files and folders; create them, name them, move them, and copy them
Heritage Quest & Ancestry Databases on Thursday, February 7, at 7 p.m.--learn how to use these online databases to research family history
Participants for all of these classes must be able to use a computer mouse. Register online; class size is limited.
On Tuesday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m., the Morning Book Group is scheduled to discuss Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants--a young man joins a travelling circus during the Depression as a caretaker for the animals. For more information call Chris Mika at extension 271.
YOUTH SERVICES:
There will be a Drop-in Valentine Craft opportunity on Saturday, February 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To be sure enough supplies are available, please register online--though there is no specified time necessary. For preschoolers and up.
