LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MARCH 26-APRIL 1
YOUTH SERVICES:
This week is Spring Break and Youth Services has several special programs planned. On Tuesday, March 27, Popeye and Swee' Pea will present two shows, at 11:00 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. Enjoy the amazing tricks of Swee' Pea the dog and learn about animal training. No tickets are required, but seating is limited. All ages are invited, but preschoolers must come with an adult.
The recent animated film, Happy Feet--a penguin learns to tap dance--will be shown on Wednesday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m. It is rated PG. No tickets are required, but seating is limited.
Folksinger Will Branch will be performing on Thursday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m. Sing and dance along with him as he presents favorite childrens' songs and traditional folk songs. All ages are invited, but preschoolers need to come with an adult. No tickets are required, but seating is limited.
Although the Wolves Winter Reading Program has ended, the Library is finally having the Wolves Player Visit (the originally scheduled visit was cancelled because of a blizzard). Jordan Lavalee will be at the Elk Grove Village Library--in Kids Korner--on Tuesday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. He will talk about his experiences, sign autographs, and dress one the children in attendance in a full-sized hockey uniform.
NOTE: Regular storytimes and programs will not be held this week because of Spring Break and the special programs.

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, March 19, at 7 p.m., psychiatrist Dr.Maxim Chasanov will present a program on Bipolar Disorder, covering the definition, symptoms, and treatment of this widespread disease. To register, call 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426).
The only Computer Class offered this week is Microsoft Word 2000 at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23--learn to create, save, and edit documents. Participants must be able to use a mouse. Register at the Reception Desk: class size is limited.
The Evening Book Group will be discussing Alice Hoffman's The Ice Queen--when an East Coast librarian moves to Florida, she is struck by lightning, eventually leading her to reexamine her "frozen" emotions--on Tuesday evening in Kids Korner. For more information call Chris Mika at extension 272.
YOUTH SERVICES:
On Tuesday, March 20, the Final Battles of the Battle of the Books will be played. At 6 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. the top 4 teams will face off in the semi-finals. At 7:15 p.m. the 2 winners of the previous rounds will meet in the Final Battle. All the Battle participants and their families are invited to attend and cheer on the other teams. When the Final Battle is concluded and the Winning Team is announced, there will be refreshments served.
This is also the final week for the Wolves' Winter Reading Program. It will end on Friday, March 23. The final raffle prize winners will be chosen on Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MARCH 12-18
On Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m., the movie Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg and Greg Kinnear, will be shown in the Large Meeting Room--local Philadelphia bartender attends an open tryout for the struggling Eagles and earns a position on the team (based on a true story). Tickets are available at the Reception Desk.
Only one Computer Class is being offered this week:
Internet Basics will be taught on Wednesday, March 14, at 9:30 a.m.--computer and Internet newcomers will learn about toolbars, URLs, hyperlinks, and more. Participants must be able to use a mouse. Register at the Reception Desk; class size is limited.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS TONIGHT
Daylight Saving time starts tonight at 2 a.m. So, set your clocks FORWARD one hour before going to bed. The remainder of the extra DST month will be made up the first week of November; we'll "fall back" on the first Sunday in November.

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m., the Friends wil be sponsoring a special opportunity to make a Spring Craft Centerpiece. This workshop is limited to only 20 participants. Register at the Reception Desk.
Several Computer Classes are being offered this week:
Internet: Beyond the Basics will be offered on Monday, March 5, at 9:15 a.m.--make Internet surfing more efficient through shortcuts and tricks
Beginning Excel on Wednesday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m.--(NEW CLASS) learn to format cells, create charts and graphs, and use spreadsheets; must be familiar with Windows XP
Windows Explorer on Thursday, March 8, at 2 p.m.--organize your PC by using files and folders
Participants in all these classes must be able to use a mouse. Register at the Reception Desk; class sizes are limited.
The Morning Book Group will be meeting on Tuesday, March 6, at 10:30 p.m., to discuss Ann B. Ross's Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind--recent widow discovers secrets from her late husband's past as she learns to cope with life on her own in a small town in the South. For more information call Chris Mika at ext. 271.
This is the last week for the Adult Winter Reading Program (it ends March 11), so finish up the three required mysteries and earn a raffle ticket.
