MEMORIAL DAY CLOSING
Because of the Memorial Day Holiday, the Library will be closed BOTH Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29. The Library will reopen on Tuesday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m., resuming regular hours.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 30-JUNE 4
YOUTH SERVICES:
Students in 6th grade and up are invited to attend a meeting concerning being a Volunteer during our annual Summer Reading Program. This year's SRP, Elk Grove-opoly, will begin on Monday, June 12, and will end on Friday, July 28. There will be two informational meetings--only one needs to be attended--, one on Tuesday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m., and the other on Wednesday, May 31, at 4:00 p.m. Interested students should bring a parent (written permission is needed) and a copy of their summer schedule. They should be prepared to be in a 1 1/2 hour meeting (possibly), learning the basics and signing up for hours--usually 2-hours at a time. These volunteer hours can be used for required Community Service hours. And, there will be a special party after the last week with food, games, and prizes.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 22-28
On Monday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m., Sharon Stankus, a member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment as well as the Association for the Study of Dreams, will present a program entitled Dream Interpretation in the Large Meeting Room. Learn how to understand your dreams and even, possibly, to influence them, as a way to enrich your life. Register at the Reception Desk.
On Thursday, May 25, Baseball Crosstown Rivalry will come to the Elk Grove Library when George Castle (Cubs fan and author) and Rich Lindberg (White Sox fan and author) meet to debate and discuss the past, present, and future of baseball in Chicago. This Friends-sponsored program will be presented at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room and will include slides and film. Register at the Reception Desk.

ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m., geriatrician Dr. Weise from Alexian Brothers Hospital will present a program called Demystifying the Midlife at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Registration can be made at 1-866-253-9426.
On Tuesday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m., in Kids Korner, the Evening Book Group is scheduled to discuss Karen Joy Fowler's The Jane Austen Book Club, about a monthly book club that discusses only the novels of Jane Austen. For more information call Chris Mika in Adult Services, ext. 272.
YOUTH SERVICES:
On Thursday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m., Pocket Circus will perform in the Large Meeting Room. This bilingual (Spanish and English) show for the whole family will contain magic, music, acrobatics, juggling, and humor, presented by a unique duo from Argentina. No tickets are necessary, but seating is limited.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 8-14
On Monday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. the movie Good Night, and Good Luck will be shown in the Large Meeting Room. In this multi-award winning film, legendary broadcaster, Edward R. Murrow, uses his media position to help engineer the downfall of Senator Joseph McCarthy. The players include David Strathairn, George Clooney (also director and co-author), Frank Langella, Jeff Daniels, and Robert Downey, Jr. Tickets are available at the Reception Desk.
Computer Classes:
Microsoft Word 2000 on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:00 p.m.--for patrons who can use a mouse, basic techniques (creating a document, saving, and editing) will be taught
Internet: Beyond the Basics on Wednesday, May 10, at 7:15 p.m.--shortcuts and "tricks" for more effective use of the Internet will be taught; requires some familiarity with the Internet and with using a mouse
Windows Explorer on Thursday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m.--learn to organize the info on your PC by creating, naming, moving, and copying files and folders.
Note: all three of these classes are meeting in the Evening. These will also be the last classes given until June. Register at the Reception Desk; class size is limited.
