LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MAY 1-7
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, May 1, at BOTH 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room, a special program, Identity Theft/Cash Stash, will be given by a representative of the Illinois State Treasurer's Office. The two-part presentation will first cover identity theft protection practices, credit bureau information, and reporting identity theft. Then an opportunity will be given for participants to find out if they have unclaimed assets in the Illinois financial system. Register at the Reception Desk.
The Morning Book Group is scheduled to discuss The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw. The group will meet at the Sheila Ray Senior Center on Tuesday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. Call Chris Mika in Adult Services (ext. 271) for more information.
YOUTH SERVICES:
On Wednesday, May 3, there will be a program for Young Adults, grade 6 through High School, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. called Get Down with Duct tape. Attendees will be able to use duct tape to make a wallet and flip-flops. A special Mystery Treat will be provided. Register now in Youth services.
The annual Mother's Day Drop-In Craft will be held this year on Saturday, May 6, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Although participants can come at any time within the time given, we ask that they register at the Youth Reference desk so adequate supplies may be purchased. For Preschoolers and up, along with an adult if necessary.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS APRIL 24-30
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, April 24, at 7:00 p.m., Paula Weiner from the Alexian Neurosciences Institute will present a program on Successful Aging in the Large Meeting Room. Discover ways to successfully adjust to the inevitable changes, physically and socially, that we will probably all experience sooner or later. Register by calling 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426).
Two Computer Classes will be given this week, both Internet Basics:
Monday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, April 26, at 10 :00 a.m.
Toolbars, Internet addresses, hyperlinks, and more will be covered for participants with little or no experience on computers, but who can use a mouse. Register at the Reception desk; class size is limited.

CHARACTER COUNTS IN SPORTS
Today at 2:00 p.m., Steve Chromik, local soccer player for Bradley University and former Reserve player for the Chicago Fire, will present a special program at the Elk Grove Library as part of the local Character Counts promotion. After a brief discusssion, Mr. Chromik will host a soccer demonstration; other activities, including raffles and Give-aways, will also be included.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS APRIL 17-23
ADULT SERVICES:
Travel: Switzerland will be presented on Monday, April 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. This film presentation will show interesting facts as well as scenery, fom the lakes to the Alps. Register at the Reception Desk.
Also, on-going in the Large Meeting Room, is the annual Trees Exhibit put on by the Elk Grove Art Association. The winners in this juried show of paintings and photographs are identified by ribbons.
YOUTH SERVICES:
As part of National Poetry Month, Dr. Gezundheit will return on Thursday, April 20, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for Slammin' & Jammin' with Dr. G.. Sixth graders through 12th graders are invited to share original or published poetical works with the group. There will also be pizza, raffle prizes, and more. Register at the Youth Services desk; participation is limited.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS APRIL 10-15
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, April 10, the movie Proof, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Anthony Hopkins, will be shown at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. This movie concerns a young woman who is trying to cope with the recent death of her father, a brilliant mathematician, while trying to continue his work on an important proof.
Two Computer classes will be taught this week:
Internet: Beyond the Basics will be presented at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, April 10--shortcuts and tricks for patrons familiar with the Internet and able to use a mouse
Microsoft Word 2000 will be presented on Tuesday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m.--for inexperienced patrons who can use a mouse; creating, saving, and editing documents
YOUTH SERVICES:
The annual Spring Fling: Bunny Hop and Hat Parade programs will be presented this week for preschoolers through Kindergarten age children. Seasonal stories, finger plays, puppet shows, and the highly anticipated Hat Parade through the Library (attendees should wear a hat--paperplate hat patterns are available at the Youth Services Reference desk) will be incorporated into each program. The Spring Bunny will make a special appearance.

Tuesday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m.
No tickets are necessary.
Please note that Storytimes are over now until the middle of June when the Summer Reading Program begins.
THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAY, APRIL 16, FOR THE EASTER HOLIDAY.

SPECIAL MOVIE SHOWING: CHRONICLES OF NARNIA
On Tuesday, April 11, the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be shown in the Large Meeting Room at 7:00 p.m. No tickets are required for this free presentation, but seating is limited. It is rated PG and lasts for 140 minutes. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS APRIL 3-9
On Monday, April 3, the Friends of the Library will be hosting a special program at 7:00 p.m. restricted to members of the Friends only. Following the annual Friends meeting at 6:30 p.m., Rita Emmett, the author of The Clutter-Busting Handbook: Clean It Up, Clear It Out, And Keep Your Life Clutter-free will speak on Clutter, Clutter, Everywhere: How to De-clutter. Ms. Emmett will also sign copies of her book. Interested patrons can easily join the Friends for only $5.00 a year and can pay at the Reception Desk.
On Tuesday, April 4, the Morning Book Group will meet at the Sheila Ray Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. to discuss Karen Joy Fowler's Sweetheart Season about a post WWII corporate women's baseball team. For more information, call Chris Mika at the Adult Reference Desk (ext. 271 or 272).
On Thursday, April 6, a computer class on Windows Explorer will be held in the Adult Computer Lab at 10:30 a.m. Particpants will learn to work with files and folders to organize their PCs. Sign up at the Reception desk.
This is the last week for Spring Storytimes and other Youth Services programs. The next Storytimes will start in the middle of June.
