SPRING BREAK ACTIVITIES

This coming week is Spring Break for many local schools. Youth Services will be hosting a different special program each day, Monday through Friday. Tickets are not required for any of the programs/films, but seating may be limited. Note that because of these programs the usually scheduled Storytimes, Kaleidoscope, Getting Ready to Read, and Science Magic will NOT be held this week.

Monday, March 27, at 10:00 a.m. in the Large Meeting Room:
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (PG; 157 minutes)--witches-in-training, Quiditch Tournament

Tuesday, March 28, 11:30 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room:
Dr. Gezundheit's Clown Therapy--audience participation, juggling jokes, and material related to the 50th Anniversary of Elk Grove Village [an adult must accompany preschoolers]

Wednesday, March 29, at 10:00 a.m. in the Large Meeting Room:
Chicken Little (G; 81 minutes)--animation, young chicken, sky falling

Thursday, March 30, 11:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.:
Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles--up-close, hands-on, humorous presentation of 10-12 different reptiles; limited seating. [an adult must accompany preschoolers]

Friday, March 31, 10:00 a.m., in the Large Meeting Room:
Dreamer (PG; 106 minutes)--young girl, race horses

YS WINTER READING PROGRAM FINALE

The final full day for the Wolves Winter Reading Program is this coming Friday, March 24. On Saturday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m., the usual weekly raffle will be held, then the raffle of the other prizes will take place. Readers will be able to "report" and get raffle tickets up until time for the raffles to start.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MARCH 20-MARCH 26

On Tuesday, March 21, the Evening Book Group will be discussing Ben Sherwood's The Man Who Ate the 747--to get a girl to notice him , a Nebraska man attempts to eat a 747; the World Record recorder comes to town and also falls for the girl in this humorous tale. The group will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Library.

March is Women's History Month. This might be a good time to read some of the New Biographies that have women as the subject:

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MARCH 13-MARCH 19

On Monday, March 13, at 7 p.m., in the Large Meeting Room, the Elk Grove Library will show the comic movie, Must Love Dogs, starring Diane Lane and John Cusak--the hazards of on-line dating set-ups are explored. Tickets can be obtained at the Reception Desk.

There are two Computer Classes this week :
Windows Explorer on Tuesday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m.--organize PC files using the folder system
Internet Basics on Thursday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m.--for patrons who can use a mouse and want to learn how to utilize the Internet.
Both classes will be held in the Kaplan Computer Lab. Register for them at the Reception Desk; classes are limited.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS MARCH 6-MARCH 12

ADULT SERVICES:
On Tuesday, March 7, the Morning Book Group will meet at the Sheila Ray Senior center to discuss Bernice McFadden's Sugar. For more information, call Chris Mika in Adult Services.

On Wednesday, March 8, Rick Germann will present a program on exercising the brain so as to improve and maintain a better memory called Brain Blasting--Building Better Minds. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. Registrations can be made at the Reception Desk.

This week there are two Computer Classes:
Inernet: Beyond the Basics on Thursday, March 9, at 2:15 p.m.--shortcuts and tricks for patrons who are familiar with the Internet and can use a mouse
Microsoft Word 2000 on Friday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m.--patrons who can at least use a mouse can learn the basics of opening, editing, and saving documents.
Register at the Reception Desk for these classes.

YOUTH SERVICES:
Shannon Townsend (aka Kenmei Rokugatsu) will once again be presenting a program for Young Adults, 6th grade through high school, on drawing Manga. Genres of Anime: An Art Class for Everyone will be presented on Thursday, March 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Building on her earlier classes, Ms. Townsend will cover some of the different types of anime and manga, from "Shouju to Space Opera". There will also be pizza, pop, and raffle prizes. Register at the Youth Services Reference Desk; the class is limited in size.
