LIBRARY HAPPENINGS DECEMBER 27-31

The Library is closed today, the 26th, and will also be closed Sunday, January 1, and Monday, January 2. In addition, the Library will close early on Saturday, December 31, at 1 p.m.

Youth Services will be hosting two events this week.

On Thursday, December 29, Charlotte Battin Productions will be doing Cinderella Revisited at 1:00 p.m. This half hour show tells Cinderella's story from the point of view of the Fairy Godmother. It is a family show, suggested for ages 3 & up.

On Friday, December 30, Bob Hoffman will be returning with his Kingdom of Animals, showcasing 7 animals--the familiar and the exotic. There will be two shows: one at 11:00 a.m. and one at 1:00 p.m. This show is for all ages, but preschoolers must be accompanied by a parent.

No tickets are required for either show, but seating is limited in the Large Meeting Room.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS DECEMBER 19-25

On Monday, December 19, at 11:00a.m., Vent Elations--Stephanie Johnson and "Friends", presented A Christmas Carol. Thanks to all who braved the cold to come enjoy her show!

On Wednesday, December 21, at 10:30 a.m., American Eagle Productions will present Jingle Bell Express--a musical tribute to the 12 Days of Christmas. For ages 3 and up. No tickets are required, but seating is limited in the Large Meeting Room.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

The Library will be CLOSED Saturday, December 24, Sunday, December 25, and Monday, December 26--all three days. It will re-open on Tuesday, December 27, at 9:00 a.m.

NEW CHRISTMAS FICTION

Adult Services has recently had a display featuring Christmas Fiction, old favorites and new additions among them. Some of the new books include:

The Secret Life of Mrs. Claus by Carly Alexander--three stories about the women who portray Mrs. Claus with Santa Claus at Rossman's Departmant Store

The Christmas Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel by Jennifer Chiaverini--an unfinished Christmas quilt found in the attic brings back memories of past holidays to Master Quilter Sylvia Bergstrom Compson

Let's Be Jolly! by Janet Dailey (pb)--two rewritten romances from the 70's and 80's, loosely connected to Christmas

Comfort & Joy by Kristin Hannah--recently divorced librarian Joy Candellaro impulsively books a flight to Canada, but when the plane crashes, she finds hope and romance with a single father and his remote young son

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS DECEMBER 12-18

Monday, December 12:
The film Must Love Dogs, starring John Cusack and Diane Lane will be shown in the Large Meeting Room at 7 p.m. A divorcee signs up with a dating service and answers an ad by a man who says he wants to meet someone who "must love dogs", so she borrows a dog to impress him--with humorous results. Tickets are available at the Reception Desk.

Wednesday, December 14:
Medicare: Part D Prescription Drug Program--Which One Is for Me? from 10:30 a.m. to noon--Polly Machinski from the Kenneth Young Center will answer questions and discuss enrollment, costs, and coverage. Attendees should bring the Medicare & You 2006 Handbook. Register at the Reception Desk. [This is a repeat of last week's program.]

Thursday, December 15:
Make a Holiday Craft Centerpiece while listening to holiday music and sampling holiday cookies starting at 7 p.m. Formerly known as "Mom's Night Out", this program has limited seating. Register at the Reception Desk soon.

Morning Book Group
This month Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World will be discussed on Tuesday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. The group will meet at the Sheila Ray Senior Center and will be led by Adult Services Librarian Chris Mika.

Internet: Beyond the Basics on Wednesday, December 7, at 7:15 p.m.--shortcuts and tricks
Microsoft Word 2000 on Friday, December 9 at 2:30 p.m.--basics for Newbies (must be able to use a mouse)
