LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 28-DECEMBER 4
ADULT SERVICES:
Chicago Christmas Lights--Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, and Lincoln Park Zoo--, Marshall Field's decorations, and lunch at Lawrey's Restaurant are all part of the bus trip planned for Sunday, December 4. The bus will leave the Library at 1:00 p.m. and return around 8:30 p.m. Tickets, costing $67, are available at the Reception Desk.
YOUTH SERVICES:
This is the week for Christmas Crafts for kids taught by Mrs. M.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY CLOSING
The Library will be closed on Thursday, November 24, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Library will be open its usual hours on Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Library will also close early--at 5 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.--on Friday, November 25, because of the Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, which will run from c.5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Because of the fireworks scheduled for 6:30, the back entire parking lot will be closed after noon; all cars must be removed by that time. The City Hall lot will be available for general parking. UPDATE: The Village Hall lot will close at 4 p.m. The Village suggests parking in the Park District lot, in the shopping center near Dominicks and Kinkos, or near the theater.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOV 21-27
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, November 21, Dr. Kuesis, a specialist in diseases of the hip and knee, will present a program called The Facts about Osteoarthritis. It will be at 7 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Register by calling 1-866-ALEXIAN (253-9426)
Y0UTH SERVICES:
On Friday, November 25, the movie The Polar Express will be shown in the Large Meeting Room at 11 10 a.m. All ages are welcome, but pre-schoolers must be accompanied by a parent. No tickets are required, but seating is limited.
Non-Profit Group meetings for this week should be:
November 22 (4th Tuesday of the month):
H.E.L.P. Home Education, 7 p.m.
November 23 (4th Wednesday of the month):
Elk Grove Artists Association, 6:30 p.m.
Normally, on the 4th Thursday, the A.W.A.K.E. Sleep Apnea Support Group would meet at 7 p.m. But because of the holiday, they will not be meeting on November 24. Please call the Administration Office (ext.239) for information about their next meeting.

FLU CLINIC CANCELLED
The Flu Clinic, originally scheduled for November 10 and officially "postponed", has now been officially Cancelled. No other clinics have been planned at this time.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 14-20 (cont.)
On Monday, November 14, the movie The Interpreter will be shown in the Large Meeting Room at 7 p.m. Starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, the plot revolves around a conspiracy to assassinate an African diplomat that U.N. interpreter Kidman overhears and the efforts of Secret Service agent Penn to protect her from the conspirators. Tickets can be obtained at the Reception Desk.
On Saturday, November 19, and Sunday, November 20, the Friends of the Library will host their special annual Holiday Sale of books and other items suitable as gifts.
On Tuesday, November 15, the Evening book Group is scheduled to discuss Tracy Chevalier's The Girl with the Pearl Earring at 7:30 p.m.

CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK: IMAGINE
Children's Book Week--sponsored by The Children's Book Council--will be observed this year from November 14 -20. Youth Services will he hosting two events in conjunction with this observance.
On Thursday, November 17, Family Reading Night--a statewide program--will take place at 7 p.m. Milk and cookies will be served while participants listen to parents reading their family's favorite picture books. Children may wear their pajama's and bring their blankies and a stuffed toy. Interested parents can register now at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Registrants will be asked if they intend to read and, if they are planning to read, then what book they will read.
On Saturday, November 19, from 11-11:45 a.m., Paddy Lynn will return with another hilarious program. Children get to help her act out stories; this year the stories will include The Mitten and The Two Bear Cubs, and more. No registration or tickets are required.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS NOVEMBER 7-13
ADULT SERVICES:
On Monday, November 7, Philomena Urhausen, a "certified visual coordinator", will demonstrate several Creative Holiday Table Settings. Attendees will learn some napkin folding techniques and get to take home samples and written instructions. It is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Registration is now being taken at the Reception Desk.
Youth Services:
Thursday, November 10, 7 p.m.--Traveling Pants Program, grades 6 and up [see entry below]
Friday, November 11, 10 a.m.--Ocean Adventures: The Australian Great White Shark Expedition will be presented by biologist/photographers Wayne and Karen Brown. A chance to learn all about sharks for ages 4 and up. Although no registration or tickets are required, seating is limited in the Large Meeting Room.

"TRAVELING PANTS" ARE HERE!!
Registration has already begun for the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Program scheduled for Thursday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. For 6th Graders and up, the program will include a discussion of the the three books in the series, food, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to decorate your own pair of jeans (supplies provided). Participants will also be able to have a hand in decorating the "official" pair of jeans (there are actually 2 pairs) traveling from library to library--each library has had a chance to decorate a leg. These jeans are currently on display in Youth Services up on the bulletin board behind the Reference Desk.
