LIBRARY CLOSED JULY 3 & 4

The Library will be closed Sunday, July 3, as well as the actual Independence Day Holiday, Monday, July 4. It will reopen on Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. as usual.

ELDERHOSTEL TRAVELING

Roger Loeffler will discuss the Elderhostel Program for adults 55 and over, where travelling is combined with learning and discovery. It will be Monday, June 27, at 7:00 p.m.

JUNE 25 YOUTH SERVICES REGISTRATIONS

On Saturday, June 25, registration opens for the following programs:

Harry Potter--Star Pupil--Thursday, July 14,
at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. (4th grade and up)

Babysitter's Training Course--Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17, from 1-5 p.m.
(ages 10-16). There is a $5 fee for materials.

Captain Underpants--Thursday, July 21, at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
(1st grade and up)

Anime/Manga Class--Thursday, July 21, at 7-8:30 p.m.
(7th grade and up)

BUSY MONDAY, JUNE 20

Alexian Brothers Hospital is sponsoring a Hearing Screening on Monday, June 20, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. Register for an appointment by calling 1-866-ALEXIAN (i-866-253-9426).

At 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, Susan R. Dolan, RN, JD, will present a program on Power of Attorney for Healthcare called "Prepare and Take Home Your Own Advance Directive". An actual "fully executed Advance Directive" will be completed during the session to take home. Register at the Library Reception Desk.

Summer STORYTIMES begin this week with Monday Bookbabies (6-18 mos. with parent) at 10 a.m. and Lapsit (18 mos.-2 1/2 yrs. with parent) at 10:30 p.m.

Tuesday of this week only--June 21--Mrs. M. and Mrs. Clark will be presenting a special Puppet Show at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for all ages. The show will be repeated on Wednesday night, June 22, at 7 p.m. The shows will take the place of the regularly scheduled Toddler Tales (2 1/2 -3 1/2 years old)--Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. starting June 28--and Storytime (3 1/2 yrs. to K)--Tuesdays at 10 a.m or 2 p.m. starting June 28 and Wednesdays (drop-in for all ages) at 7 p.m. starting June 29.

Kaleidoscope (1st grade and up) will meet on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. starting June 21.

YOUTH SERVICES PROGRAM REGISTRATION

Registration for two more summer programs opens on Saturday, June 18:

Bingo--scheduled for Thursday July 7 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., or 3 p.m. [this is also the rain date for Tie-Dye T-Shirts]. For all ages; children entering 2nd grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent.

YA Learn-To-Knit--Fridays, July 8, 15, and 22 from 2-3 p.m. For 6th graders and up; limit 10.

CORRECTION: The July 22 date for Learn-To-Knit has been changed to July 29. The dates are now July 8, 15, and 29.

ROTARY FEST PARADE

Today is the start of the annual Elk Grove Village RotaryFest. Besides the usual array of bands (like "American English" and "Route 66"), the carnival, and the great food, there will be a Circus-themed parade on Saturday, from 6-7:15 p.m. The Library will be participating again this year, handing out bookmarks related to our Summer Reading Program theme--"Super-Powered by Books". Watch for us there!

TIE-DYED T-SHIRTS SIGN-UP

Today, June 11, is the first day to register for the Famous Tie-Dyed T-Shirts Program. It will be held on Thursday, June 30 (Rain Date, July 7) at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Since the class is limited to 30 participants per time period, sign up ASAP at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Children younger than 3rd grade must be accompanied by a parent. If it rains, Bingo will be played and the tie-dye will be postponed until the following week.

On Monday, June 13, registration for the Summer Reading Programs, in both Youth Services and Adult Services, begins, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. A special prize will be given to those who register on this first day only.

NEW LIGHTS

Notice how bright it suddenly is in the library lately? It's the new lights, being put up this week. They are actually the same type as the old ones, but over time, the lights begin to lose their brilliance and need to be replaced. The new lights seem to be yellower, too, but that will also change over time. Replacement is usually every two years.

LIVE BUTTERFLY EXHIBIT

Come to Youth Services today and see the Live Butterfly Exhibit. There are cocoons and caterpillars in special containers preparing for either emerging as a butterfly or spinning a cocoon. One butterfly was already coming out of its cocoon today. The exhibit will be at the library for about 2 weeks.

ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Sign-up for the Adult Summer Reading Program will begin on the same day as the Youth SRP, Monday, June 13. The theme this year is Movies and the book selections will be from related genres--i.e., "Documentary" will mean "Non-Fiction". This year there will also be a special related program by an expert on films. More details will be available soon in the Summer edition of Highlights and at the Adult Services Reference Desk.
