YS SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2005

The Youth Services Summer Reading Program, SUPERHEROES: POWERED BY BOOKS, will have its Kick-Off Registration, on Monday, June 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Registrants on Monday ONLY will receive a special incentive award, a "jelly" bracelet. The program will run through July 29, with the special SRP party for those who finish--18 books read (10 for Young Adults)--on August 3. The show that day will be a return of the Madcap Puppets with "Down on the Funny Farm".

As usual, the program will involve reading books and earning prizes, raffles, storytimes, and fun activities, shows, and films. A special variation of the program will be available for Young Adults, 7th grade and up. Some of the programs scheduled include a Harry Potter party, a Police Dog Training Demonstration, the Creepy, Crawley Zoo, and a Captain Underpants session. Crafts include making a picture frame and the ever-popular Tie-Dye T-Shirts (and/or Bingo). The Babysitter Training Class will also be held. For Young Adults, there will be a special 3-part Learn-to-Knit program and an Anime/Manga Drawing Class with local artist "Kenmei Rokagatsu".

Storytimes will start the week of June 20th, with a special opening puppet show on the 21st at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and on the 22nd at 7 p.m. Except for the drop-in Wednesday night storytime (at 7 p.m.), all storytimes and Kaleidoscopes will be on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The movies will be on Fridays at 10 a.m.. So far, the schedule includes, Mary Poppins, Ice Princess, and The Pacifier.
