KENT STATE MAY 4, 1970

Thirty-five years ago today, four students were killed in Ohio when National Guardsmen inexplicably fired on a rowdy anti-war protest group at Kent State. Another memorial site is Kent State/May 4, 1970. Five years ago Noam Chomsky gave a memorial speech at Kent State. The tragedy also forced a change in how National Guard and police units face up to riots and major public disturbances.

Most of us today don't really remember or think about what happened then unless we hear Neil Young's memorable song, "Four Dead in Ohio". The lyrics are brief and repetitive, but heartbreaking.
